The start of the make, bake, create....

The idea of starting the new year with a fresh approach was to improve my skills, try new things, find different ways of doing old things, use things that I already have more creatively and buy new as a last resort not a first instinct all whilst keep a tight rein on the finances. I hope it will allow me to continue to tread more lightly and take me up some new avenues. Perhaps some will be blind allies, but I'll share my experiences, successes or failures and what I've learnt on the blog in between all the other varied stuff I like to write about!

Saturday was Twelfth Night and I dipped my toe in the water with my first ever attempt at making icecream. Now I don't have a machine for this, but this method is dead easy and gives a smooth finish.

One pot of double cream whipped in with 200g condensed milk and flavourings of choice.  I don't have a particularly sweet tooth, so I added two teaspoons of coffee dissolved in a teaspoon of cold water and then tasted to check the levels of flavour. It's been frozen in old takeaway containers.

I've been left with 200g of condensed milk to use up so I shall buy another lot of cream and then either mix in some vanilla extract and the frozen raspberries we've still got leftover from the summer's pickings or I might just have a go at this Tiger Tail icecream as I adore liquorice and orange. Perhaps not quite such a lurid colour though! http://loveinmyoven.com/tiger-tail-no-churn-ice-cream/

    1. It's a soft texture, but with less sweet flavours I rather like it. Not quite the same as shop bought, but easy to make and I can see other flavour combinations which would work.

  3. I tried ice cream during the summer with no machine either and it wasn't much of a success ... you're inspiring me to have another go Aril.

    1. Worth a punt I'd say. I found it very sweet which is why I'm doing less sweet flavours.

  4. Well done! My Mum makes really tasty ice-cream also- I've never tried! Condensed milk is good for Indonesian-style Avocado and chocolate juice - so tasty!

Good Friday

Hope everyone has a good Easter break. I saw this massive pug shaped egg on one of my recent forays and the utter ridiculousness of it just...
