Since last weekend we've had a fair amount of the wet stuff in this little pocket of Sussex. It seems like it's been pouring for days now, but I've carried out a little experiment this week to see what's been really going on weather wise. From last Saturday until today we've actually had as many dry days with a good level of sunshine on some of those. Probably like many others we've discovered that we have got a couple of slipped tiles and a leak in the garage so we're in the queue waiting for a roofer to come out to us. I expect that they're rather busy at the moment. In the meantime I don't think I'd have cared what the weather was doing when I came across this really unusual sundial on a recent visit to Penshurst Place in Kent.
This is 'The Archer' and is the work of Robert Rattray. Let's hope he's kept busy this weekend🌞

I love that archer!
ReplyDeleteOur roofer finally fixed our roof on Monday - he managed to find some slate tiles at a reclamation yard, spent five hours replacing the old ones and only charged us £100. He's a superstar! x
Ours is coming this week hopefully. Huzzah Arilx
DeleteThat's inspired a train of thought for a wood carving.

That decoration looks like he's ready to shoot someone. The shadow behind him looks as if he's impaled himself on his own arrow. Quite a metaphor within the picture. You cannot inflict pain on others without bringing it on yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt was commissioned in memory of one of the family members
