Sometimes I've seen that people have had fake windows painted into the gaps left behind by those wanting to avoid the infamous window tax. This example looked to be the same except it comes with that lovely little added detail of a moggie 😻. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.

Isn't that weird - there is no window tax now so they could simply reinstate the windows if they wanted or needed the light. The way window tax was explained to us, was that pre-industrial revolution, production was largely by cottage industry. In cottage industry light was provided by windows - the tax was in effect a way of taxing production (think spinning, weaving for example) without having to measure the production itself - more windows indicated a bigger workplace, more production, so more tax
ReplyDeleteI hadn't really thought about putting the windows back in. I've seen similar examples in many places on my travels. Arilx
