The rule of six

Slightly risque seasonally appropriate/topical humour as yours truly is struggling to engage her brain today!

Roll out the barrel.

Absolutely nothing festive about this barrel whatsoever....it's just those colours and the sunburst detail. It reminds me of the Refreshers packaging which is one of my absolute favourite sweeties [I scoff the whole lot all in one go away from others so that I don't have to share 😈 ] I did do a quick Google search to see if I could unearth any fascinating barrel related facts, but frankly from what I read they were dull as ditch water and certainly not a barrel of laughs [ho, ho]. A friend did suggest that if unicorns drank beer this would be their barrel of choice....anyway enough of this silliness. I was out with Ice Badger on Saturday when I saw it. Tomorrow I shall track down my inner adult and write a grown up post about our local ambling.

Lighting Up

No your eyes are not deceiving you....that's us in tatters in December 2020. Right up until the tiers were announced last week it was touch and go whether our regular Treedressing event would even be able to go ahead and sadly the other side we normally perform with fell foul of them and weren't allowed to travel.

We were back at the Weald and Downland museum [where they film "The Repair Shop"]. With plenty of rules to adhere to....no dancing, singing etc etc this was a much pared down occasion, but I took my tambourine along and gave it some welly during the set we played and the procession. At the end the central trees are festooned with decorated jam jars of twinkly candles which always starts my Yule for me. I never feel Christmassy until we get to this point. Maybe it wasn't the full fat version that I'm accustomed to, but frankly I don't care. I am very appreciative that we were able to attend at all. It's the first time we've performed since February.

I'll leave you with just a handful of photos that I took quickly before we finished. Thanks to our squire Martin for giving me permission to use the first photo that he took of Mr and Mrs GBT.

Stumped

An old tree stump at the end of somebody's drive now transformed into a smiley face for all the passers by.

I do like it when people go slightly [or very] off piste and do something a little bit different. We were only out to buy more milk, but it cheered up our stroll no end. Have a great weekend folks!

Tree Tracery

One of my favourite things about the season is seeing the silhouette of the bare trees against the skyline. These two are from this week. Hand on heart I have done nothing to the second one bar crop it.

On the playground.

Much as I love the beautiful Autumnal hues on a sunny day it's a welcome relief to stumble across some brightly coloured ceramic art hiding on a local school site. I regret that I can't tell you anything about them except that I would imagine that the pupils made them. Fear not it was a Saturday morning when I poked my camera lens through the fence so there weren't any children around!!

Planter Tweaks

2020 has definitely been the year of the garden and I've seen people doing amazing things. I regret that I didn't join them though. Instead I clamped my hands over my ears and ignored ours completely. Since Mr GBT redesigned it in 2019 I've not really been able to decide what I wanted to do with it beyond making it wild life friendly. A general malaise set in until I saw a photo of a FB friend's garden and then it all fell into place. I now know how I want it to be and with our lovely neighbour just having replaced the fence on their side [we did ours last year] the basic framework is there and good to go.

Bringing colour in is the first step and we've been talking through ways of doing that. We only have a small patch so relying solely on the plants isn't going to provide enough throughout the seasons [we're north facing so light levels can be low]. Mr GBT came up with a cunning plan last week and drew up the design below.

I was assigned the task of being colour monitor which I felt I did to the best of my ability and after a whopping outlay of £11.20 at Topps Tiles we're underway....or should I say Mr GBT has started.

We've got the two planters he made and he's going to decorate each side with a combination of the tiles I've chosen. Years ago I spent ages stripping copper wire out of some old flex we'd been given and he's made hooks from it which he's attached to the tile back with epoxy glue and then hung them on nails. He's going to work on them over the next few weekends. It reminds me a little of the colours that Piet Modrian worked in.

Am chuffed so far.
