Witches Butter

I have always known this [and the similar yellow one] as either brain or jelly fungus, but was delighted to discover its common name of Witches Butter a few days ago. According to an Eastern European legend if you found it on your doorframe it meant that your home had been hexed. The only way to destroy the spell was to pierce it with a pin. It can be seen all year round growing on dead deciduous wood.

  1. I never knew it was called that but have seen it. I shall go round the outside of my house checking for it, I don't want another year like last year!
