Top of the Table
This glorious table is 500 years old, but is referred to as "the board" in a 16th century inventory of Little Moreton Hall. Back in the day most people would have sat on benches running along each side of it. Unless you were an important bod.....then you got to sit on a chair at one end.....
thereby making you head of the board! I now wonder if this is where the term "chairman" originates from? It's only my pet theory, but would seem to be a logical follow on.
