Sew far sew good.

My Mum let me take this sewing machine from her loft a few years ago when I was helping her to undertake a major declutter and sort. In my head I had grandiose plans of getting it serviced and then learning how to make my own clothes. Two years ago I plonked it on my bedroom floor, bought some replacement bobbins and then there it sat😊

Let's be realistic if it was going to ever happen it would surely have happened by now....all it's been doing since is getting in my way and making me feel a bit guilty. Freecycle is my saviour....I offered it last week not expecting many replies and was quite taken aback by the huge number of requests. In the end I plumped for the lady who has a contact who services the machines. It's then going out to a part of Malawi which has no electricity and it will be given to a lady who will be able to set up her own tailoring business. Sewing for her local community will enable her to put her children through school.

I am simply delighted that my decluttering has resulted in some good.

  1. What a lovely end to that Singer machine!
When I first got the sewing bug I used a Singer but found it heavy going and clunky. I've got three of them (all family hand-me-downs) - I'd love to do something charitable with mine, too. x

    1. We have charities locally which take them. Mean Queen further down in the comments has mentioned Workaid which might be suitable?

  2. This brings back good memories. I learnt to saw on a machine very similar to the one in the photo, patiently taught by my mum. How lovely that it's going off to Malawi and to hear of the changes it's going to make to that one family, and through the mum's efforts, to the entire community.

    1. This one belonged to my grandmother who I never met. I've still got a miniature one in my dollshouse.

    1. Some people wanted it as a decorative object and whilst I can see the appeal I'd far rather it was still being used.

  4. Excellent result. I took four machines to a contact in Lincoln for WorkAid. I hope my machines are rumbling away in Africa. Electric machines can be adapted to run manually.

    1. It's always better to reuse isn't it.

Good Friday

Hope everyone has a good Easter break. I saw this massive pug shaped egg on one of my recent forays and the utter ridiculousness of it just...
