Mirie It Is While Sumer Ilast

I can feel the calming effect of this song as I listen to it. It dates from the first half of the thirteenth century and is the oldest surviving secular one written in English. Despite it only being a single verse it's a lucky survival. It was found on a scrap of paper inside a book. Enjoy your weekend.

  4. I really like early music and I must say, I teach my year 5 children about it and they really seem to enjoy and remember the Medieval era and Renaissance music when I teach them. One girl totally loves Hildegard Von Bingen. Another nice composer of secular music to listen to is Martin Codax who was a Spanish troubadour. His music was found in the spine of a book in the 20th century.
