Sticky

I did inwardly chuckle when I recently met a lady with her spaniel who was carrying the most enormous stick in his mouth. I can only think it would be akin to me carrying a caber parallel to the path and sideways up our high street on a busy Saturday afternoon. I smiled and merely commented "Blimey" as the determined pooch approached with his quarry....his owner smiled back at me wryly and said "well he's nothing if not ambitious!". It has put me in mind of Julia Donaldson's amusing poem " Stickman" that I saw a few months ago in our poetry corner in the park.

Hope you all have a good weekend. We have our first ever flu jabs to look forwards to!

    1. I love dachshunds. We used to see loads when I was a child, then none and now they're everywhere again. The miniature ones are especially sweet. Arilx

  4. Cute dog story-I love a good dog story and am picturing him knocking down china and vases, and all kinds of other precious, as he tries to bring his stick inside!

  5. Hello Aril,

What fun to have discovered you and the delightful poem of the Stickman.

It is amusing how some dogs, often in our experience small ones, really fight above their weight. They carry huge things in their mouths, often at great discomfort to themselves and square up to dogs three and more times their size. All to prove, perhaps, that they may be small but they are powerful. And, it does seem to work as bigger dogs do seem to give way to their smaller counterparts.

Perhaps in life generally this is also true. Small people often seem to take on the Goliaths with surprising results. Gentle giants...

  6. Thank you for your comment. I do agree that the little dogs are quite plucky. My friend's Akita used to give terriers a wide berth after one nipped her on the ankles. Arilx
