Galloping Gargoyles

To coin a phrase from Harry Potter no less. I think these examples of madness from the exteriors of a couple of the Oxford Colleges certainly fit the bill. The first one definitely has the look of a female house elf about her!










 These faces never cease to amaze me!

  1. I imagine it was the only time that stone cutters were given carte blanche. They certainly amused themselves.

    1. You would think so but it's more likely that they were actually commissioned. The medieval mind seems quite insane when seen from our modern perspective but these were god fearing folk who also completely believed in evil spirits, dragons etc.
