Christmas Scavenger Hunt 12th December

Holly and No Ivy

This huge Winter decoration is above the fireplace in Bayleaf at the Weald and Downland Museum. As the smoke rises it gently goes round and round. It used to be traditional to keep all the greenery up for 40 days until Candlemas when it would then be burnt otherwise bad luck would surely follow. Apologies for the lack of ivy.

  2. It is too cold to cut the ivy here and the birds have devoured every berry on the holly tree but we have hardly any snow!
